Intro to Sport Climbing Workshop

This workshop is for anyone looking to move from lead climbing indoors to sport climbing outdoors.

There are some key differences when you go outside, we’ll cover all these as well as lots of gentle practice and take the time to ease any nerves.

You need to be a competent lead belayer to attend this course.

There is no requirement to lead during the course however, all the skills can be practiced and simulated with a rope above you.

We cover:

  • Types of bolts, how to spot bad ones, who puts them in? and who checks them?

  • Crag hazards, kit you need and etiquette.

  • Safe leading, clipping height, foot behind rope, ledges, lead falling skills.

  • Revisit of belaying, personal checks, knot in the end of the rope at all times.

  • And the one everybody worries about - how to rethread a lower off, either practiced on the ground or at the top with supervision if you’re nervous.
