Youth Sport ‘Ready to Rock’

This British Mountaineering council affiliated course is for 11-17 year olds who lead climb indoors at 6a or above and are looking to learn the extra skills to sport climb outside.

For parents who may not know Sport climbing is a style where fixed safety bolts have already been attached to the rock.

A parent or guardian must accompany the attendee, either as a spectator or booked on as a partcipant.

Course Structure

The 1-Day course will aim to provide an introduction to outdoor climbing including the following:

➢ How to re-thread and lower off a sport route

➢ Different types of lower-off commonly found

➢ Key safety skills to avoid the most common accidents

➢ Checking bolts and lower-offs for wear

➢ Appropriate lead belaying 

➢ If appropriate (weather, location and participant allowing) intro to lead climbing including clipping and re-threading

➢ Types of belay devices and ropes and how they work togther

➢ How to strip the equipment safely from a sport route

➢ Using a clip-stick to pre-clip the first bolt of a climb

➢ How to leave a rope clipped to the first or second quickdraw to safeguard subsequent attempts
